Sucking the Last Few Dollars Out of a Broken Country

I was reading a Digg story today, as I normally do (with pity for myself and our country, but not enough to get off my ass and do something about it), and it finally occurred to me. The reason why the Constitution lost about 20 lbs. isn't because George W. Bush hates America or because he's too stupid to realize what he's doing, it's because he loves money. He values money more than he values your civil rights, he values money more than he values the troops in Iraq, and he certainly values money more than he values his personal or professional reputation.
I find myself constantly asking... myself (Austin Powers Reference), why I keep clicking on, and subsequently reading, these dumb articles about the newest way the Bush Administration is fucking me in the ass? I'm sure I'm not alone in this, there must be other people out there asking themselves this same question. The popular answer would probably be: "They give me ammunition for when I'm in an argument with someone that supports him!" Well, there's a problem with that answer. If you find yourself in the presence of someone that supports George Bush, then you're also in the presence of someone that a) doesn't read ANYTHING or b) someone that shares his same devotion to religion.
The funny thing is (I suppose not funny to me, but you may find this funny) is that I am a federalist libertarian, yet my own mother (when asked by me) professed that she would vote for George Bush again if the chance were available. I have to include that my mother isn't the smartest woman in the world, but she has common sense and a moral compass. Because this is my mother, I felt the need to ask why, and she danced around a few mediocre points. It doesn't really matter what she said, what mattered was what I already knew. I know she never reads the news, and I know she never reads pertinent political books. Instead, my mother focuses 100% on her job, on obsessively keeping the house clean, and on reading dirty smutty Danielle Steal books. This is what makes me absolutely mad, people that vote DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO THEY'RE VOTING FOR!
Another aspect of that problem would have to be the people that read articles and books about political news, but get their information from a biased source. People that watch the O'Reilly Factor and consider that a newsworthy one-stop source for the days news are the type of people I'm talking about. When I get up in the morning, the first sites I go to to read the news are Reddit, Digg, and NewsVine in that order. Some people would probably say that these are highly democratically leaning, but I challenge you to read comments on NewsVine articles and try to say that again. After I read these I read at least one of the morning papers, and then skim through Reddit for the rest of the day. I doubt that if any of the people that consistently watch the O'Reilly Factor read what I do, they'd find themselves straight in the middle of the political spectrum. And the reason for that isn't because one party is more trustworthy or decent that the other, but because they're both havens for lying scumbags that like to cheat the public.
